Little Wings
Family Birthplace
The Little Wings program offers grief support for those who have lost a baby during any stage of pregnancy. Our bereavement team consists of nurses, OB Techs, support staff, chaplains, social workers, and community support staff.
After your miscarriage, and/or D&C there are two ways you can take care of your baby’s remains. Most of the time, and unless you tell us otherwise, the remains of your baby will be buried at the “Little Wings” Vault at the House of Crosses located in the Prosser Cemetery at 1601 Paterson Avenue, Prosser, WA 99350.
A Communal Memorial Services happens biannually at the House of Crosses. The burial is a private event and is therefore not announced. We send out invitations to families who have experienced a loss and wish to be included in the Prosser “Little Wings” Communal Memorial Services.
You may rest assured that the remains will be handled carefully and respectfully. The remains will be buried in the “Little Wings” Vault at the House of Crosses within the next few months. You are welcome to visit the House of Crosses at any time, and may find comfort in doing so.
Once in a while, a family prefers to bury the remains themselves. This is an option for any pregnancy that was carried less than 20 weeks, and not born alive. You may arrange to pick up the remains with our lab by calling 509-786-6636 or the Prosser Memorial Health Family Birthplace 509-786-6677 up to two weeks following your D&C or miscarriage. You will be asked to sign a release form, and then be handed the remains in a container.
We are so sorry for your loss. The grief after pregnancy is unique. We hope this information is helpful as you may face various emotions and reactions in the days and weeks ahead. Feel free to contact us with questions or for support. You will find more information on the handouts we will give you called “Pregnancy Loss, Important Information”.
